Preventing Bathroom Falls

Rae was experiencing frequent forward falls from the toilet, often after falling asleep while seated. A wheeled commode had become unsafe, as it tipped forward with him, so it was replaced with a fixed toilet frame and raised toilet seat.

To provide extra support, REMAP volunteers designed and installed a hinged support arm that folds down in front of Rae. It provides a secure surface to lean on and helps prevent him from falling forward. When not in use, the arm folds neatly upright against the wall.

This simple, bespoke solution has made toileting significantly safer, reducing the risk of injury while maintaining Rae’s independence.
