Safer Access to the Garden
Gary uses a walking stick and was finding it difficult to step out into his garden through his patio doors. The door threshold and drop onto the existing step meant he had nothing within reach to hold for balance, increasing the risk of a fall.
After discussion with Gary and the occupational therapist, REMAP volunteers identified a simple, effective solution. A half step was added at threshold height on top of the existing step to reduce the height change, and a short, centrally positioned handrail was installed where Gary could easily reach it while stepping outside.
The changes have made access to the garden safer and more confident, allowing Gary to enjoy getting outdoors again with reduced risk of injury.
