Supporting Safer Bed Transfers

Derek, who has had a stroke, was struggling with bed transfers and had become fully reliant on a hoist. Although he could stand using a rotunda, weakness on one side meant he was unable to move safely from lying to sitting at the edge of the bed with carers.

Derek was keen to reduce his reliance on the hoist and regain more independence. REMAP volunteers designed a bespoke powered assist that helps him move from lying to a seated position in bed in a controlled and safe way, working alongside carers and family support.

The solution has enabled Derek to progress with transfers using the rotunda, improving confidence and reducing the need for full hoisting while maintaining safety.
