Making Garden Access Safer
Gary uses a walking stick but was struggling to step out through his patio doors into the garden. The threshold and existing step offered nothing for him to hold onto, increasing his risk of falls.
Following discussions with Gary and his occupational therapist, REMAP volunteers added a half step at threshold height and installed a short, centrally positioned handrail that he could easily reach.
These simple adaptations have made it safer and easier for Gary to access his garden independently, reducing fall risk and improving confidence outdoors.
